Handmade, Cold-Pressed Soap
'Saponification is the chemical reaction that occurs when fats or oils (fatty acids) come into contact with lye (a base). Saponification literally means "soap making" from the root word 'sapo', which is latin for soap. The by-products of the saponification reaction are soap and glycerin.'
The Ingredients
I use wonderful raw organic coconut oil and the finest grade organic cocoa butter as the main ingredients for the soap. Coconut oil is a wonderful emolient, as is the cocoa butter, which is also soothing to the skin.
I don't add any colourings or perfume oils to the soap - I only use essential oils and natural plant additives (eg, dried lavender, dried orange peel, ground almonds).
As there are no animal products in this soap it is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.
This soap has not been tested on animals. People with sensitive skins should test a small area of skin prior to first use.
Prolonging the life of your Soap
The soap should be stored in a cool, dry place until ready to use.
As your soap contains natural glycerin you should allow the soap to drain (slatted soap dishes are perfect) and dry between uses. This is because glycerin attracts and retains moisture which shortens its life.
As the soap is made of natural ingredients it has a shelf life of approximately one year from when it was made. Also, the longer the soap has been made, the more moisture it loses, so the weight of the bar will reduce over time.
